How to Get Your Weight Loss Back on Track

When you're trying to lose weight, it's not uncommon to "backslide". This is even more common at this time of year when people decide to embark on a new years resolution to lose weight and fall off after a few weeks. However, when setbacks do occur, it is important to get back on track as quickly as possible. Here are a few tips that you may find useful.

Don't focus on what you are denying yourself.

Instead of thinking about all the foods you can't eat, spend your time focusing on the healthy foods and beverages that you can eat that you actually enjoy eating. Keep your focus on the "can" and not the "can't". This will help foster a more positive attitude towards food.

Do not lead yourself into temptation.

If you put yourself into the proximity of unhealthy foods, chances are you will be tempted by them. The old saying "out of sight, out of mind" applies here, so keep out of the chips and lollies aisle in the supermarket!

So, with that in mind, only stock healthy foods in your fridge and pantry. Secondly, knowing that you will need some kind of snack mid-afternoon, take something with you like a low-sugar protein bar, a boiled egg or some nuts or greek yoghurt. This way you'll avoid the snack vending machine which will only have sugary or carby snacks that are definitely not going to help. And lastly, when you're ordering your coffee, avoid even looking at the pastry cabinet!

Incorporate physical activity that you enjoy into your day.

Most of us feel better when we incorporate physical activity into our day, but often that physical activity can feel like a chore or, at times, even a punishment. Tailoring physical activity to what you enjoy can help you stick to a more physically active lifestyle. Personally, I enjoy walking, with or without my dog, and cycling. Find what works for you and you'll find yourself looking forward to physical activity rather than avoiding it.

Get organised.

Three meals a day and 1-2 possible healthy snacks every day does take some planning. Even if you're on a Herbalife shakes programme, you need to make sure that you have one healthy main meal per day as well as healthy protein snacks. Work out a number of healthy meals that you can have that will be easy to make and make sure you have the supplies on hand.

Even if you are having meals with your family you can still manage it. For example, let's say you're making a stir fry and serving it with rice - if you want to avoid those carbs just have your meal with some cauliflower rice or konjack noodles. There's always a solution.

Ditch the screen and get moving.

Human bodies are designed for movement. They're not designed to sit still and stare at a screen for hours on end every day. Not only our weight, but also our general physical and mental health can only be improved by getting the body moving and focusing our attention at a distance farther than a few feet away from our faces.

With that in mind, work out activities that you enjoy that involve some movement. This could be something around the house such as gardening, or an activity like bushwalking, or some kind of craft-based activity. There are a myriad of activities that will help to burn off a few extra calories.
